The major task for the regional NRM bodies is to develop, review and coordinate the implementation of a single natural resource management plan for their region.

These regional plans set out the means for identifying and achieving the region’s natural resource management targets that are agreed by Government and the community and, together with investment strategies for implementing the plan, define the goals and contributions that all parties will undertake. The plans detail catchment-wide activities addressing a range of natural resource management issues including land and water management, biodiversity and agricultural practices.
