The Queensland Murray-Darling Committee, or QMDC, is a natural resource management (NRM) organisation that supports communities in our designated region to sustainably manage their natural resources.

QMDC provides mapping and planning support, and technical advice to private and public land managers. QMDC does this in order to help communities to put catchment-wide improvements to NRM into practice. Specific natural resources targeted by QMDC include:

  • Land and Soils
  • Water
  • Riverine, Floodplains and Wetlands
  • Weeds and Pest Animal Management
  • Vegetation and Biodiversity.

QMDC also offers education and training programs to help increase the knowledge of the communities we work with to manage their natural resources sustainably.QMDC "Working together - healthy landscapes, viable communities"

In 2004, after significant consultation with these communities, QMDC developed its Regional Natural Resource Management (NRM) Plan. This Plan sets out the priorities, targets and milestones for NRM in the region.

Some of these targets are currently under review by a range of community panels.

The full NRM Plan, and the most up-to-date target review report, are available online, in the publications section, or on request from the Toowoomba office.
