SEQ Catchments sponsors population talks

South East Queensland’s regional natural resource management organisation is sponsoring a business forum designed to stimulate debate around the issue of a sustainable population in the region.

The Business Sustainability Breakfast Forum, When is enough, enough? is the third in a series on offer by peak green group, Queensland Conservation Council.  SEQ Catchments is the series sponsor.

CEO SEQ Catchments, Simon Warner, says population is a contentious issue, but one that needs to be addressed.

“When dealing with the plethora of natural resource management issues across the region, it’s impossible to not consider sustainability in terms of population,” Warner says.  “We don’t necessarily support a population cap for the region, but we do think vigorous debate is needed to ensure policy and planning is adequate.”

The breakfast event, which takes place Friday 17 July is expected to attract 150 business leaders and planners from across the region.

Keynote speaker Andrew McNamara, former environment minister will discuss why population is the unifying concern across a range of policy issues.  A panel of experts including Melva Hobson, Mayor Redland City Council, Brian Stewart, CEO UDIA, Glen Elmes MP, Member for Noosa and Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability and Simon Baltais, Sustainable Population Australia will then discuss a range of perspectives and answer questions from the audience.

Registration is now open for the event.  And further information is available from sam@wombatcreative.com.au or by calling 0421 709 519.  More information about SEQ Catchments is available at www.seqcatchments.com.au.  More information about event host Queensland Conservation is available at www.qccqld.org.au.
