Incentives Database

NatureAssist offers cash incentives to landholders
NatureAssist is for rural Queensland landholders to help sustainably manage their land, conditional upon them entering into a nature refuge agreement. NatureAssist is a competitive market-based incentive scheme that gives landholders throughout rural Queensland the opportunity to tender for financial assistance to carry out on-ground management actions that will maintain or enhance their property’s conservation values. Expressions of interest must be submitted by 16 March 2009 (5pm AEST). Landholders can express their interest by completing a simple one-page expression of interest form available at www.epa.qld.gov.au/naturerefuges or by calling the EPA Customer Service Centre on 1300 130 372.
Optus Connecting Communities Grants
The Connecting Communities Grants Program is part of our commitment to building better Australian communities. On an annual basis, the program provides grants to not-for-profit community organisations to help reduce social isolation for those in need and reconnect disengaged youth. Grants are valued up to $5,000.

NRM Navigator
The NRM Navigator (previously known as the NRM Toolbar) is a set of online tools and databases that make it easier for NRM professionals to find and share information.
The NRM Search Engine allows Australian NRM professionals to conduct internet searches that search across hand-picked Australian NRM websites. The NRM Search Engine's advantage over generic search engines is that it only delivers results from high quality websites thereby increasing the relevance of search results.
Other resources include: Decision Support Tools; E-Networks; Events; Professional Bodies and a Knowledge Needs Database.
Australian Agriculture and Natural Resources Online (AANRO)
Australian Agriculture and Natural Resources Online (AANRO) is “an integrated knowledge discovery tool for agriculture and natural resources”.
enQuire
enQuire is the central point of natural resource management information and project management tools for regional bodies and individuals.
Project details from Regional NRM bodies across Queensland can be found in enQuire. Note - The extent of information varies between the regions.
Evidence Bases
Now available is a web-based tool for NRM groups (or individuals) to develop collections of material that are useful as evidence for decision-making. Please see the Evidence Base section of the site or this information sheet for more information.

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) website hosts a wealth of research and other information on NRM and broader topics.
Wetlands.edu
Wetlands.edu is a national wetland education and management training program designed to provide capacity building and skills development for regional and community investments in wetland-related assessment, planning and actions.
Three-year start-up funding was provided by the National Competitive Component of the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) in 2005. This funding ended in June 2008.
Wetlands.edu is aimed primarily at regional natural resource management and catchment bodies and their stakeholders, including Landcare and river management groups, local governments and private landholders.
Weeds CRC
The Cooperative Research Centre for Australian Weed Management, or Weeds CRC, provides a wealth of information for your weed management needs such as directories and guidance.
Water for the future
Water for the Future is a long-term framework to secure the water supply of all Australians. The Australian Government is investing $12.9 billion over ten years through Water for the Future to address four key priorities:

Designer Carrots
The website of Designer Carrots, the national Market Based Instruments Capacity Building Program, contains a lot of useful resources describing the different types of market-based isntruments (MBIs) and their uses, details of MBIs being used around the country, a library of documents on MBIs, and other downloadable products. It also has a members' area, which requires users to register (an easy process). On the members' part of the site you have access to the Little Orange Book, a 'yellow pages' of MBI practitioners and experts from around the country, online training on MBIs, forums, and news feeds. A book has been developed by NQ Dry Tropics and CSIRO to help landholders understand the significance of native plants and animals they find on their properties.
Coastal Mapping Tool
The National Coastal Landform and Stability Mapping Tool has recently been launched, which for the first time, maps coastal landform type for the entire Australian coastline and provides the ability to identify vulnerable areas to erosion under a changing climate.
National Climate Change Database
A database exists to help improve understanding of the impacts of climate change on Australia's natural systems. It provides easy access to a wide variety of data from numerous sources including the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, universities and research organisations.
Low Carbon Diet Challenge
PowerMate Energy Meter
This small tool can tell you the energy consumption of individual electrical appliances. Appliances are simply plugged into the meter and readings can be given for electricity consumed and greenhouse gases produced. The meter will convert data into amounts per hour, day month and year.

- Waste kit - This kit contains a set of scales, tarpaulins, containers and other resources needed to conduct a waste audit.
- Soils kit - This kit contains soil pH kits, salinity meter, and other materials that enable you to conduct hands-on soil/water interaction activities investigating topics such as erosion, infiltration and water holding capacity.
Inspiring the next young environmental leader (book)
This book and the accompanying DVD are about developing environmental leaders and providing an alternative model for education.
The resource features case studies and provides a suggested approach for developing your own student-led environmental project or running your own environmental education event.
