State-wide Regional NRM Communication Strategy

State-wide Regional NRM Communication Strategy
This communications strategy is a high-level, overarching strategy for us all to use to build common messages and approaches, including regional body, NRW (CP) and Collective communications strategies. This includes common key messages, objectives, target audiences and so on.
A background information document and all strategy documents are available for regional communicators' use below.
Regional bodies can start incorporating this communications strategy into the regional communications strategies.
Background
  • Government agencies, regional NRM bodies and regional NRM practitioners already have a variety of communication activities, tools, plans and networks in place for communicating and raising awareness of their activities in relation to regional NRM.
  •
  • To ensure an integrated approach, a state-wide regional NRM communication strategy will link state-level activities and complement the Australian Government communication strategy. All regional NRM bodies in Queensland have been involved in the development and it is desirable that all will be involved in the implementation of this communication strategy.
  • This state-wide regional NRM communication strategy is designed to assist the communication efforts of regional NRM implementers by providing avenues for the distribution of information relevant to their work and by generating awareness of their activities.
  • Two communicator networks (the Australian and Queensland NRM Communication Network and the Queensland Regional NRM Communication Network) have been involved in coordinating stakeholder input into this strategy.
TheState-wide Regional NRM Communication Strategy:
o        outlines key messages and the communication goal for the Queensland implementation of regional natural resource management (NRM)
o        has been developed to connect to and support existing programs and promotional activities undertaken by the Australian and Queensland Governments, the Regional NRM Groups’ Collective, and regional NRM bodies
o        will also help to provide consistency across all agencies in relation to what is being communicated about regional NRM
o        will promote regional NRM and support the efforts of NRM practitioners across Queensland.
o        utilises agency, regional NRM body and other regional NRM practitioners’ processes
o        will link to the Australian Government Communication Plan
o        regional NRM bodies and state government regional NRM program’s communication activities will support the actions within the State-wide Regional NRM Communication Strategy.

The State-wide Regional NRM Communication Strategy will be supported, at the state-wide level, by a Queensland Government complementary program communication strategy and a Qld Regional NRM Groups Collective communication strategy.

KEY ISSUES
  • The State-wide Regional NRM Communication Strategy has been developed by regional NRM bodies, the Qld Regional NRM Groups Collective, Queensland Government department business units supporting regional NRM, and requires final approval from these participants.
  • The State-wide Regional NRM Communication Strategy requires your approval prior to it going to the Qld Regional NRM Groups Collective communication coordinator to present this strategy to the Collective and regional NRM body CEOs for their acknowledgment.
  • It will then go to the Joint Australian and Queensland Governments Steering Committee for their acknowledgment.
  • The State-wide Regional NRM Communication Strategy has been in development since November 2007 and was delayed due to the announcement of new programs. During this time the strategy has been altered to support regional NRM rather than government programs, which reflects the feedback provided by regional body communication officers.
