The Regional NRM Groups Collective has signed Memorandum of Understandings with the Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF); Local Government Association Queensland (LGAQ); Queensland Water and Land Carers (QWaLC); and World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
By working together and building capacity we can strengthen planning decisions and on-ground activities to contribute to sustainable natural resource management. Our joint efforts are imperative for the health of Queensland’s natural resources which we all rely on for our communities to enjoy healthy and happy livelihoods, today and in the future.

In seeking to build on the intent expressed for a strong and effective policy partnership, the Collective and QFF have identified a shared commitment ‘achieve profitable sustainable production systems through the management of natural resources for the benefit of land managers and the broader community’.
Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) unites 13 of Queensland’s peak rural industry organisations, who collectively represent more than 13,000 primary producers across the state.
The Collective and QFF continually strengthen their relationship and joint leadership across policy, program and project levels. Areas where joint leadership has stemmed from this relationship include systematic approaches to sustainable agriculture; management of the Great Barrier Reef catchment and farming lands; policy recommendations for emerging state issues; and the state’s stock routes.

Partnerships with Industry Groups
The Collective is in the process of meeting with all the key industry groups involved with natural resource management in Queensland. Our goal is to develop long-term partnerships with the various industry bodies involved in these issues. The following are the organisations we have met with and are seeking partnerships to promote the sustainable use of Queensland's natural resources.
AgForce Queensland
www.agforceqld.org.au
www.agforward.org.au
AgForce Queensland is a peak organisation representing Queensland's rural producers, which strives to ensure the long term growth, viability, competitiveness and profitability of broadacre industries of cattle, grain, sheep and wool in Queensland. AgForce represents an important stakeholder group for the Regional Groups Collective and is seen as an organisation to engage to ensure the agricultural community continues to participate in natural resource planning and implementation throughout the state.
AgForce has received assistance from the Queensland Government for workshops to facilitate the development of property maps of assessable vegetation, and has invited the Regional NRM Bodies to be involved in the process.
The AgForward project - an initiative of AgForce Queensland & sponsored by the Queensland Government - delivers tools and information to help drive Queensland's primary production into the 21st Century. AgForward assists landholders to better understand the requirements of the Vegetation Management Act 1999 and is open to all Queensland primary producers.
AgForward deliver one day workshops in Vegetation Management, Computer Mapping, GPS Essentials as well as Forest Practice field days.

Other Key Partners
Queensland Dept of Natural Resources and Water (NRW)
www.regionalnrm.qld.gov.au
www.nrw.qld.gov.au
The Collective works closely with the Qld Department of Natural Resources and Water on various NRM issues. The department (Catchment Programs section) provides significant financial support to the Collective, which is used to fund state-level projects and the continuation of the Collective.
The agency also provides frequent administrative and technical support to the Collective, which enhances our ability to engage the NRM bodies and various stakeholder groups throughout Queensland.
Queensland Conservation Council (QCC)
www.qccqld.org.au
The Regional Groups Collective began collaborating with Queensland Conservation in early 2004 in relation to a joint project focused at the policy level. Funding was obtained from the NHT2, and an agreement developed for Queensland Conservation to co-fund with the Collective an NRM Policy Officer to facilitate the development of policy partnerships for the conservation and environment sector.
Nigel Parratt is the NRM Policy Officer for QCC. Nigel is based in the Brisbane office of Queensland Conservation and can be contacted at nrm@qccqld.org.au.
Nigel will assist policy development, build strategic alliances and develop the capacity of the conservation sector to engage in NRM processes. Although the project looks across the NRM spectrum, four natural resource management issues have been identified as critically important by both Regional NRM Bodies in their strategic plans and Queensland’s primary conservation organisations.
These key areas for conservation policy development are:
* Climate change
* Biodiversity conservation
* Water conservation
* Sustainable land management
Nigel will focus on developing strategic partnerships for both policy development and on-ground projects predominantly, but not exclusively, in these four areas.
